Lambing Live

Firstborns arrived on Saturday, another pair today, and another ewe just gone into labour. It's started, it's happening, I'm up and down the farm track every hour, at least, and up at 5am doing the day shift.
Dahlia the Berkshire gilt is due to farrow any time now, although her milk hasn't come in yet, and the first duck eggs in the incubator are also due to hatch this week. One big earth mother then.

Aw! How sweet. I give you permission to call the cute little lamb on the right Yorkshire Pudding. Simultaneously, I withdraw your right to have him neutered or slaughtered. He must live in your home like a pet dog and you must allow him to sleep on your bed, visit the local pub and enjoy free internet access.

You are busy then?

Morning Welshcakes - yes, and today is the day they go out in the field.

YP - it is thus named, sister will be Horseradish. Umm, no. Don't EVER name things you are rearing for meat. Next thing you know you'll be taking your mates to the butcher and not to buy chops.

You could say that Lindsay!

Spring is such a wonderful, wonderful time of year! I do hope the rest of lambing & pigleting(?? know that's not the right word, but what do you call it when pigs give birth) has gone well & that you manage to catch up on some rest lol! I have duck eggs in my incubator due to hatch out at the end of the month & can't wait to hear that pitter patter of tiny little duckling feet again. Thanks again for the duck hatching advice sheet which I have refered to often. Best wishes, Sara x

Hi Mopsa,
Your ewe and lambs look great. What breed are they? How many ewes do you have?
We don't have sheep on our farm but a few of my friends are sheep farmers and have been very busy already as they lamb a little earlier.
Kind regards
Sara

Fpot - don't know about that - it certainly brings out the tiredness in me! But I do love it too.

Farming Friends - they are Welsh Mountain Badger Face and we have both types - Torddu as in the picture and the Torwen. The flock varies between 50 - 100.
