Now these are amazing photos of this year's frog spawn and reminded me that it's about time to go on the jelly hunt. But I didn't expect to find megaspawn.I counted eight separate nuclei in one bonkersly over-sized egg. What's that all about then? Conjoined froglets? Octuplet amphibians? All I could think of was the immense relief that Mama frog must have felt dumping that lot in the water.

Gosh, surely that's early as well. We don't expect our first spawn for another month yet.
No, not early. Last year there was spawn in the middle of January and tadpoles by this time.
