Please sir, can I have some more?

When I saw this on the news I couldn't believe it. Farmers queueing for grants, first come first served, with no reference to levels of need or strategic use of sparse funding where it would have most impact.
What next? First come first served pensions? Egg and spoon races to determine child benefits? Begging bowls for incapacity benefit and disability living allowances?
If this is how we deal with government finances, why do we need civil servants or politicians, or democratic decision-making processes? Let's just have a free-for-all; the market place has gone entirely mad.

About as mad as persisting with set aside when what we need is our farmers producing nutritious food and reducing our reliance on imports.

Ah Mopsa, I have given up trying to make sense of this government and modern life, I really have.

Oh, and yes, you're quite right re your comment on mine (they were both exceedingly small!!).

Have you heard the one about the English farmer, the Scottish farmer and the Irish farmer...?

Garfer - have you seen the press about surges in sales of junk takeaway food... I predicted this ages ago but stupidly didn't put it in writing (or at least I think I didn't). So depressing.

Jane - I was sure they'd whipped out their willies.

Welshcakes - I thought it had to be a joke...just like WW!

You're right. Absolutely crazy!

How right you are. It was so demeaning to those concerned. There doesn't appear to be any joined up action in any government departments. We have had two separate visits from two groups looking at similar records (movements etc.) in two weeks.

No job losses in the civil sector then!!!

YP, DF, Paula, Eurowoof - I'm relieved to see that I'm not alone in wondering what the heck's going on!
