Fabulous sea creature habitat

Back to the wonderful Northcott Mouth today to get a winter fillip and celebrate the neighbour's dog's birthday (any excuse). It is the most amazing place.
But what is this stuff? It looked like sesame seed snaps, extruded into cylinders and clumped together in massive boulder size lumps. Click on the image to have a really close look at the structure.

Postscript: it's honeycomb worm! Even the name is fabulous.

We had a discussion over lunch yesterday. "Shall we go to Northcott Mouth or to Sandymouth?" We decided on the latter. Just missed you.

Followed the link to your previous post and felt serious pangs of jealousy.

I love that. It looks as if it should be part of an orchestra

I had a lovely walk in the hills and was accompanied by a lovely little dog. I had to retrace my steps to take her home - I don't suppose it was you - you're a big dog aren't you?

What a scary looking worm - wouldn't like to meet that on a dark night ..

Isn't blogging wonderful - the things we discover.

Kaz, a very big dog. Most comforting. And there's two of them.

M&M - it was fairly permanently attached to the rocks, so I think you're safe!

M'ear/Bretwalda - the amazing things in the natural world are so much more incredible than anything else I come across. We can but admire and be grateful.

That close up is amazing - it really does look like thousands of sesame seeds - never thought of that before.

Paula - my Mother had a passion for sesame snaps - it was the first thing that came to mind!
