The elements

I wondered why the barometer manufacturers had bothered with those extreme gradations so far below the "bloody awful weather" category. Now I know.
I kept waking in the night, hoping that willpower alone would keep the half finished barn roof in place. Having three chimneys in the house, the wind whistles and hoots through its trio of echo chambers just to make sure the inhabitants have plenty to keep them wakeful and worriting.
The blustering is as bad as ever and it's not yet safe to go and check if any trees are down or for any other damage. The sheep are ok and the dogs will have to be content with poking their noses and behinds briefly out of doors; no walks today.

Oh I feel guilty for moaning about the wind on my blog now.

Snipe - They look so imposing in the photos - it's always a surprise that they're so tiny.

What a great blog - glad I found you! It was well windy where I am today too. The children woke up hideously early and played that the house was being blown over (which it wasn't).

Poor you. Saw pics of your part of the world on the telly. Hope you've managed to hold everything together. x

I guess this is March roaring in like a lion.

I just prayed that the hen-house didn't bowl down the hill again. (It didn't thankfully.)

Hope your roofs stay put.

hunker down, don't go out! Hope it's blown itself out by now and all is well?

I couldn't believe it when the barometer actually hit the bottom of the drum, it wanted to go down further but couldn't! No sleep last night and journeys out to lambing shed as a couple of ewes had popped in fright.
I've been thinking about you with all those buildings - glad ok to date.

Kaz - there's nothing like a little wind between friends.

GBS - it's nice to have you. Pleased that you have an upright house.

M&M - it's quite cosy hunkering down inside, but doing the animals is a bit alarming - strong winds and slidy muddy land doesn't for an upright farmer make!

Roof still there at the mo, M'ear...fingers crossed. Tarps flying though and being tied down yet again as I type (builders - so useful!).

Pig, it's still doing its thing, and my trousers are still wet and clingy from this morning's feed round.

Paula - hope you get some sleep today, but it is ears out on stalks time.

Was thinking about you guys in Devon when I saw the weather forecast. It was bad enough here in the Midlands, was scared the chimney might fall in, the wind was so loud.

Hope everything's OK with you.
