Hedgerow life

So many wonderful things to be seen if you walk rather than drive. Yesterday I found an early-purple orchid on the verge as I walked the outer boundary of the farm, and today I spotted a bright blue egg in a hedge, tucked behind gorse. I think it belongs to a song thrush. And then I noticed that a lot of the ferns are starting to unfurl; they look like ammonites.
What did you see today that gave you a thrill?

How fantastic, that's given me a thrill! We've no early-purples out yet and were just talking about how late they were this year. The other thing we haven't seen is an orange-tip butterfly, again very late. Seen any over there?
What else has given me a thrill? The green hazy halos around the trees and hedgerows as you look across the hills and valleys.

Don't get those purple orchids round here - but I watched a large group of sand martins whizzing about and settling in after their long journey.
How can they find all that energy from a few insects?

I'm just thrilled to see spring's bright fresh green as leaves unfold. Your spring is so much earlier than ours - we're 250m up a draughty mountain so must practice patience.

Lovely pictures again. Thank you.

I wouldn't say it gave me a thrill but I did catch sight of a naked man in a flat opposite our office

Paula - I'm not hot on my butterflies - have to rush home and look at the book, and even then....but I've checked the book and now I know what it looks like, the orange tip seems unmistakeable with that mossy underside.

KAZ - I always wonder the same thing - goes for bats too.

M'ear - there's a lot to be said for a late spring - it all seems to burst forth in one mad frenzy.

Eurowoof - there is nothing like a bluebell wood; our bluebells are scattered and sparse, but I love a truly blue carpet.

WW - well, that's better than catching a naked man in the office opposite your flat I suppose...
